The only saving grace for the DMK’s M. Karunanidhi is that unlike in 1996, when Rajni had asked the people of Tamil Nadu to vote out Jayalalitha, this time he has not come out with any statement against the DPA. But very clearly, Rajni is playing a game from the sidelines through his fans’ association. And for those who have given the Tamil superstar god-like status, the distinction between the PMK and the DMK has already blurred. It is another matter, though, how far the fading star will succeed in influencing the outcome of the elections.
