SIT Formed To Investigate Case Of Woman Hit By Car Of Senior Bureaucrat's Son In Thane

A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been constituted to look into the disturbing incident where a woman was allegedly targeted by her boyfriend, identified as Ashwajot Gaikwad, the son of a senior bureaucrat, in a car-related assault, as confirmed by the Thane police on Sunday.

Thane Police Commissioner Jai Jeet Singh stated that a case has been registered against Ashwajot Gaikwad and two others under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, including sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 279 (rash driving).

What happened in Thane?

The incident unfolded around 4:30 am on December 11 near a hotel situated on Ghodbunder Road, where the 26-year-old woman had reportedly gone to meet Gaikwad.

An argument ensued between the two parties. Later, when the victim retrieved her belongings from Gaikwad's car and attempted to leave, the driver of the vehicle allegedly made a deliberate attempt to mow her down, resulting in severe injuries, according to the police.

The victim took to social media, sharing details about the incident. In response to the gravity of the situation, an SIT, headed by Deputy Commissioner of Police Zone 5 Amar Singh Jadhav, has been established to conduct a thorough investigation into all aspects of the case.

"Statements of witnesses are currently being recorded, and forensic evidence is being diligently collected," reportedly said the official. He emphasized that additional sections of the law may be incorporated as the investigation progresses and more facts come to light.

The formation of the SIT underscores the commitment to a comprehensive and impartial inquiry into the alleged attempted hit by the car.
