Short-Circuited

It seems impossible but it’s true. An entire subdivision in Ukhrul district of the state has gone without electricity for the last three years. Fed up residents have finally organised themselves and have taken to the road to protest against the official apathy. They allege there is no infrastructural or technical problems preventing normal supply of power to the region. Says Kasom Khullen Subdivision Development Association chairman S. Thotasheng: "It’s just a total failure on the part of the electricity department." He wants a special officer put in charge of the department and given the specific task of ensuring that the region receives its share of electricity.
