Prime Minister Narendra Modi has asked Bharatiya Janata Party leaders to reach out to Muslim women during the upcoming festival of Raksha Bandhan as he cited that the ban on triple talaq has uplifted the sense of security among them.

According to a PTI report the Prime Minister met with National Democratic Alliance legislators from West Bengal, Odisha and Jharkhand on Monday to discuss various initiatives of the central government for different sections of the society as they gear up for the Lok Sabha elections next year and during this meeting, PM Modi made the suggestion of celebrating Rakhi with the Muslim women.

Reportedly some of the MPs present in the meeting spoke about the need to connect with people from different sections of society while they also acknowledged the government's criminalisation of the practice of instant divorce among Muslim men. PM Modi said that it boosted the security among Muslim women and further included them in celebration of the Rakhi festival.

Rakshan Bandhan festival - a celebration of the bond between brothers and sisters - will fall on August 30 this year.

The Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Bill was passed by Parliament in 2019, declaring the practice of instant triple talaq illegal and a crime that could attract a jail term for the husband.

During his recent 'Mann ki Baat' address, he highlighted the fact that more than 4,000 Muslim women performed Haj this year without a 'mehram', which he considered to be a significant transformation. He also stated that his government has made changes to the Haj policy over the past few years, providing more people with the opportunity to participate in the annual pilgrimage.

According to the report, PM Modi mentioned that the opposition bloc under the new name INDIA which was earlier called UPA had several scams attached to their leaders and will not be accepted by people in the country.

During the Monsoon session of Parliament, the BJP organized NDA MPs into groups of around 40 members based on their region. Reports say it is anticipated that Modi will address each group individually.

The first two meetings were held on Monday. He had also addressed a meeting of about 45 NDA MPs from the western part of Uttar Pradesh up to the Kanpur-Bundelkhand region.

Addressing the meeting of Uttar Pradesh MPs, he said the ruling alliance has been serving society and the country and receiving people's blessings.

PM Modi asked MPs to go to the masses with a positive message about the government's work and advised them to spend maximum time reaching out to people.

The opposition alliance might have changed its name from UPA to INDIA but it will not be able to wash off its "sins of corruption and misgovernance," he had said.
