Petrol Bomb Hurled At Tamil Nadu Governor's Residence In Chennai

Chennai Police said a petrol bomb was hurled outside Raj Bhavan's main gate this afternoon and a man had been detained in connection to the incident.

A man was arrested for allegedly attempting to throw a petrol bomb at the Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi's official residence in Chennai. 

Chennai Police said a petrol bomb was hurled outside Raj Bhavan's main gate. The incident took place around 2:45 PM. A complaint was lodged at Guindy police station.

A senior police official said the accused is being questioned for the motive in hurling the petrol bomb. He will also be sent for his mental health examination, they have said.

"A person tried to throw a bottle filled with petrol by lighting it on Sardar Patel road where Raj Bhavan is situated. One of the bottles landed near the barricade at Raj Bhavan gate but there was no damage. The accused was arrested. He has come out of jail after two years," Prem Anand Sinha, Additional Commissioner of Police, Chennai Police, told PTI.

The BJP's state unit president K Annamalai said that the incident "reflects the true law and order situation in Tamil Nadu."

A Molotov cocktail is an incendiary device, usually filled with petrol and a piece of cloth is used as a wick to light it.
