A fresh row erupted after a man brought goat to a housing society near Mumbai on Wednesday as the residents of the society accused the man's wife of spreading false information mob lynching.

What did the video show?

A video shot outside the gate of society emerged on social media where the woman was seen talking on the phone allegedly about her family being lynched by residents of the housing society.

“Mob lynching is happening outside our society,” she was heard telling on the phone in Hindi.

Another man is heard on the video, countering her: “See everyone is being called. This lady is lying about a mob lynching happening here. These people are spreading such lies.”

Suddenly, the woman's husband, Mohsin Sheikh, is seen talking to another resident, who says, “don’t abuse”, as Mohsin’s wife steps in to stop her husband.

“Who are you to stop my car? Are you the local administration? Are you the police? How can you stop my car?” Mohsin asks, as residents stop them from entering society.

All about the dispute

On Wednesday, the protests erupted inside the housing society in the Mira Road suburb near Mumbai when Mohsin Sheikh brought home two goats ahead of Bakrid

The CCTV footage footaged showed Sheikh getting out of a lift, accompanied by his wife and their son. He is then seen moving the goats into his home.

According to Sheikh, nearly 250 Muslim families live in the residential complex and also informed that a designated place was alloted by the builder for keeping the goats every year.

However, this year the things went differently and the builder refused to do the same, asking the families to speak to the society members instead, Sheikh claimed.

He further alleged that society denied them permission, which led him to take the animals home. Sheikh insisted that he had no plans to sacrifice the animals inside the society premises.

"Our society had passed a rule that no livestock would be allowed inside the society, but they (some residents of the society) violated it and brought two goats inside. We are opposing it and will not allow it," said a resident of the society

"We appeal to all to maintain communal harmony and follow the rules of the society," says another resident of the society

“If bringing the goats inside the housing colony is against the law, they should have filed a police complaint against us. We were assaulted, molested and mentally harassed by the mob that gathered to protest against us,” Mohsin Khan and his wife Yasmin Khan alleged.

The police later intervened to settle the dispute and assured society members that animal sacrifice wouldn’t be allowed inside the premises in line with the rules.

The police have registered a case against 11 people. Sheikh later moved the goats out of the property.
