A 22-year-old migrant worker, identified as Suresh Vishwanath Gautam, drowned after a fishing boat with ten fishermen on board overturned near Mora Jetty at approximately 10:30 p.m. on Saturday.

The remaining nine crew members successfully swam to safety.

According to the Free Press Journal, preliminary reports suggest that the boat was at sea for repairs when it was struck by powerful waves, causing it to capsize. "The boat was around 20 feet away from shore and was undergoing repair work.

It had some minor technical problem and the repair was ongoing when a strong wave hit the boat capsizing it," stated Senior Inspector Suryakant Kamble of the Mora Coastal Police Station.

While nine of the fishermen were able to swim to shore, Gautam drowned. His body was later recovered by rescue teams.

The police have filed an accidental death report in connection with the incident.
