How does the Indian Railways propose to counter the mafia which tries to influence the process of bidding and awarding of works contracts? A working group set up by the Railway Board has recommended that all tendering should be on the net. According to the railways, e-tendering alone will keep the mafia out of the picture at the bidding stage. Prospective bidders are often physically prevented by the mafia to even submit their bids. According to railway officials, the bidding process will be transparent once e-tendering comes into force.
