Defence Acquisition Council Approves Proposal To Buy 26 Rafale Fighters And 3 Scorpene Submarines For Navy

After getting initial approvals, the decision on final approval to purchase 26 Rafale fighters and 3 Scorpene submarines came today. It has been reported that the three additional submarines will be built at Mazagon Docks Ltd., where other submarines of the class have been built.

The Defence Acquisition Council gave nod to a proposal to buy twenty six Rafale fighters and three  Scorpene submarines for the Indian Navy on Thursday.

It has been reported that the three additional submarines will be built at Mazagon Docks Ltd., where other submarines of the class have been built.

After getting initial approvals, the decision was finalised today on the approval of the deals.

Both these deals are likely to be announced during PM Modi's visit to France.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today embarked on a two-day visit to France as the guest of honour at the Bastille Day Parade.

Before this, the shipbuilders Mazagon Dock, in December last year, delivered the fifth Scorpene Submarine "VAGIR" of Project P-75 to the Indian Nav which was launched in November 2020.

Before Vagir, the company had also delivered submarines namely Kalvari, Khanderi, Karanj, and Vela.

The sixth Scorpene submarine, Vaghsheer, was launched in April last year and undertook its first sea sortie in May this year.
