North India Weather Update: 'Cold Day' Conditions To Stay In UP, Haryana, Punjab For Next 2 Days, Says IMD

Predictions have also been made by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on the presence of dense to very dense fog over northwest and East India during the next three days and gradually decrease thereafter. In Punjab, the dense fog is likely to persist in some parts till January 5.

In continuation with the current 'Cold day' phase over parts of Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and north Rajasthan, the India Meteorological Department predicted the persistence of similar weather conditions for the next two days as well following a decrease thereafter.

Moreover, predictions have also been made on the presence of dense to very dense fog over northwest and East India during the next three days and gradually decrease thereafter. In Punjab, the dense fog is likely to persist in some parts till January 5.

Owing to foggy conditions prevailing in the national capital,  26 trains arriving in Delhi were delayed on Tuesday, according to the Indian Railways.

According to IMD's forecast for the next seven days, in Delhi, the maximum temperature is expected to reach 19 degrees Celsius on January 7. The national capital is expected to have shallow fog and a clear sky for the next seven days.

Temperature to drop in Central India

Besides cold in the northern region, night temperatures are likely to plummet in Central India during January 5-11, leading to cold wave conditions while day temperatures are also expected to be below normal, particularly in Madhya Pradesh, parts of Maharashtra, and Uttar Pradesh.

The India Meteorological Department's forecast also said that light to moderate rainfall in some places was likely in south Tamil Nadu, south Kerala, and Lakshadweep for the next 3-4 days.

The weather department further said that light isolated rainfall was very likely over Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh from January 2-5.
