Bengaluru Auto Driver Smashes Helmet, Racially Abuses Rapido Rider; Video Goes Viral

The autorickshaw driver could be heard abusing the two-wheeler taxi rider, calling him a ‘foreigner’ involved in 'illegal business'. The Bengaluru Police is looking into the matter.

In a video doing rounds online, an autorickshaw driver in Karnataka’s capital Bengaluru was seen smashing the helmet, abusing and intimidating a two-wheeler taxi rider, in what subsequently drew police action against him. The Bengaluru Police took cognisance of the matter after the video was flagged on social media. 

The two-wheeler rider, riding a Rapido, is reportedly from the northeast. In the video, the autorickshaw driver could be heard abusing the rider, calling him a ‘foreigner’ involved in “illegal business”. 

“Friends, take a look at how this illegal Rapido business is going on. This fellow has come from a foreign country and drives around like a king,” the autorickshaw driver says in Kannada. The incident took place near the Indiranagar metro station in the city.

Social media users reacted sharply to the incident, with many saying they have encountered similar rowdy behaviours from auto and cab drivers. “This is not a stray incident, auto drivers in Bangalore are the worst when it comes to behavior,” wrote a user in the comments under the video.

Responding to the viral video, Bengaluru Police tweeted that the police at Indiranagar were investigating the matter and “strict and necessary action will be taken”.
