In a video that is now going viral, Congress leader AK Antony's wife credited divine intervention behind the rise of her son Anil Atony and his decision to resign from the Congress and join the BJP.

The purported video in which veteran Congress leader A K Antony's wife Elizabeth was seen justifying their elder son's recent entry into the BJP has gone viral on social media platforms, putting the Congress party in a fix in Kerala.

“Anil's greatest aspiration was to enter politics. However, his dream faced a significant obstacle when the Congress passed a resolution against dynasty politics during the Chintan Shivir. This meant that my son, now 39 years old, had to consider his future carefully. One day, he called me and informed me that the PMO had contacted him, inviting him to join the BJP. While we have deep-rooted beliefs in the INC, having dedicated our lives to the party, we found ourselves at a crossroads,” AK Antony's wife said in the video.

Claiming that her son got the new opportunity in politics because of the intercessory prayers, she said it had also helped resolve the issues that cropped up in the family due to his unexpected entry into the BJP.

Elizabeth also said she had sought the divine intervention of St Mary to avoid “law and order’’ issues at her home after the son joined BJP. “It was a shock for my husband. I was worried about what would happen when Anil came home after joining the BJP. I prayed to Mary that she should handle the law-and-order situation at my home. Antony calmly accepted it and overcame that situation. Mathavu (St Mary) cooled down the minds of all. I feared a revolt at home. Everything has gone smoothly after the intervention of Mathavu,’’ she said.

However, Elizabeth admitted that Anil's BJP entry became a shock to A K Antony when he came to know about it through TV channels four days later. She said Antony admitted his son's decision later and asked him to come home whenever he wanted, on the condition that politics should not be discussed in the house.

A day after he criticised the BBC documentary on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, senior Congress leader AK Antony's son Anil Antony quit the party in January this year. In the resignation letter shared on Twitter, Anil said he does not have common ground with the Congress leadership as it only wants sycophants around it. Months later, he joined the BJP.
