Cryptocurrencies have sparked varying levels of interest and scepticism across different age groups. According to the 2022 Investopedia Financial Literacy Survey, millennials (ages 26-41) lead the charge when it comes to cryptocurrency investments. Around 38% of millennials surveyed have some form of cryptocurrency investments, with nearly 60% holding digital currencies.
Generation X (ages 42-57) follow millennials, with 28% of respondents from this group holding digital currencies, and Generation Z (ages 18-25) trails closely behind at 23%. Both generations consider cryptocurrencies as the second most common investment, after stocks and before mutual funds.
The Baby Boomers (58-76) stand out as the generation least interested in cryptocurrencies. Only 6% of baby boomers invest in digital currencies, and none of them have invested in NFTs. Baby boomers place their faith in stocks, mutual funds, and real estate for investment returns.

Financial coach Whitney Hansen suggests that millennials' investment decisions align with their stage in life. "They are far enough into their careers to have some disposable income for investments but have a long enough time horizon before retirement that they are willing to take on the higher risk," she says.
