Monika Khanna says that relationships can only be built over time. She adds that they require efforts from both parties. She has been part of some of the most popular projects like ‘Ikk Kudi Punjab Di’ and ‘Durga Aur Charu’. Monika Khanna has also made headlines quite often for her no-nonsense take on things. Whether it’s about work or relationships, she always has something or the other to say to her fans.

“In today’s fast-paced world, I firmly believe that patience is crucial in relationships. Taking the time to understand someone and allowing things to develop naturally is like building a house—one can’t rush the process; it requires a foundation and careful construction. If you lack patience and the ability to comprehend each other, sustaining a relationship becomes challenging, and it may quickly crumble. It’s essential to respect and appreciate each other’s uniqueness, as relationships nowadays face numerous options. In the past, it was about wanting someone, loving them, and envisioning a lifelong commitment. Now, desires have transformed into needs, and people don’t just want a partner; they need them. However, needs can change, so understanding each other deeply is vital for a lasting relationship, requiring considerable patience,” she says.

Not only love relationships but even genuine friendships require time, she says, adding, “The world has indeed undergone significant changes, and it’s true that making friends now requires as much effort as building a romantic relationship. When forming a friendship, it’s crucial to align with the other person’s values and thought process. I’ve observed instances where friends are entirely different, lacking symmetrical behaviour, yet their unique approach to life becomes an attractive quality, bringing happiness. So, I believe the fundamental requirement for anyone entering a relationship or cultivating a friendship is patience. You need to understand and figure out the other person because they won’t be exactly like you. They’ll have a different way of living, unique qualities that attract you, and understanding these aspects is key. Can you respect and embrace their individuality? After knowing all this, if that person continues to make you happy without letting their differences affect you, then you’re on the right path. Accepting and respecting each other’s uniqueness is the basic requirement for any relationship, be it friendship or a romantic one.”

Emotional health needs to be a priority, she says. “Absolutely, emotional matters are often neglected because there’s no time for each other, and even if time is available, some people aren’t good listeners. If you share your pain with them, they might share their own struggles, making your pain seem insignificant. Sometimes, we need to understand that if someone is choosing us and wants to talk to us, we should at least listen.”

“When they seek advice, that’s the appropriate time to offer it—giving unsolicited advice isn’t the right approach. In today’s time, people are so entangled in their own issues that they can’t spare time for others. I believe it’s crucial now to strengthen ourselves, talk to ourselves, understand ourselves, and express our feelings rather than relying on someone else for mental peace. The era has changed; it’s no longer about trusting someone with your delicate matters. Nowadays, people may listen to your stories just for entertainment or to portray you as sensitive, making it essential to understand these dynamics,” she concludes.
