Avatar: Fire and Ash is the third instalment of the Avatar franchise, which will hit theatres on December 19, 2025. This week, audiences will get to see the trailer of Avatar 3, if they are watching The Fantastic Four: First Steps in theatres. The trailer of James Cameron-directorial was shown to the press at Disney's Los Angeles and New York offices on Monday, the New York Post reported. New villain Varang was introduced in the trailer.
On Tuesday, the makers also unveiled the first-look poster of Varang on social media and wrote, "Meet Varang in Avatar: Fire and Ash. Be among the first to watch the trailer, exclusively in theaters this weekend with The Fantastic Four: First Steps."
Who is Varang in Avatar: Fire and Ash?
Varang will be portrayed by Game of Thrones fame actor Oona Chaplin. She was reportedly shown in spiky red-and-black headdress.
She is the leader of the Mangkwan Clan, aka Ash People. Avatar: Fire & Ash will show the Na’vi clans resist humans invading their land and stealing the planet’s resources.
The same publication also reported that the trailer shows Varang walking through a hot, gray landscape that is lit by magma, and seems to wield a flamethrower.
In the trailer, it was also shown Varang taking Jake and Neytiri's daughter Kiri hostage, and saying, "Your goddess has no dominion here."
Earlier, it was humans vs aliens. Now, with the entry of Varang, it will be the internal conflict between the Na'vis.
James Cameron on Varang
In an interview with Empire, director Cameron shared, "Varang is the leader of a people who have gone through an incredible hardship. She's hardened by that."
He added, "She will do anything for them, even things that we would consider to be evil."
"One thing we wanted to do in this film is not be black-and-white simplistic. We’re trying to evolve beyond the ‘all humans are bad, all Na’vi are good’ paradigm," he stated further.
