Just weeks after Oscar-winning composer AR Rahman landed in controversy over his Chennai concert, Marakkuma Nenjam, he has now got embroiled into another controversy, this time related to the Association of Surgeons of India (ASI).
The ASI reportedly filed a complaint against Rahman claiming that the composer had received Rs 29 lakh from the association for performing at its 78th annual conference in 2018, but he did not organise the concert and never returned the money as well.
Now replying to the same, Rahman has sent a legal notice to ASI, demanding Rs 10 crore as compensation for defaming his name and reputation, Times of India reported. He denied all the allegations and asked the association to withdraw the complaint against him within three days.

According to the four-page reply via his lawyer, Rahman mentioned how he never entered into any contractual obligation with the association. “The amount claimed was never paid to me, but to a third party Senthilvelan and a group of companies of Senthilvelan. Knowing fully that the association has no money transaction with me, they have chosen to drag me into the controversy,” as reported by TOI. He further demanded that the association should tender a public apology and pay the compensation within 15 days.
Recently, Rahman’s Marakkuma Nenjam concert was in the news after thousands of fans, who arrived to watch the event, were stranded outside the venue. According to reports, the organisers failed to correctly send the fans through the entry points, which led the fans unable to access the venue due to the excessive crowd size. The concert’s organisers, ACTC Events, later took full responsibility for it and issued an unconditional apology to all those who faced the issues.

In fact, at the time, Tamil Nadu Director General of Police Shankar Jiwal ordered the Tambaram City Police Commissioner to conduct a detailed inquiry and asked for the reasons behind the overcrowding and traffic congestion. The Commissioner was also asked to look into the overall arrangements made in connection with the event by the organisers.
