The very charming Varun Tej who is all set to surprise his audiences with his upcoming thrilling projects ‘VT12’ and ‘VT13’ has always given audiences some of the best performances to cheer him. He has been one of the very few young actors from down south who is popular across India, and people lap up to watch his films whenever they release.

‘Kanche’

Playing the character Dhupati Hari Babu in 'Kanche', a Telugu language war film in 2015, Promoted as Telugu cinema's first World War II-based film, Kanche was released worldwide on 22 October 2015, on 700 screens, and received a positive reception from critics. It grossed ₹20 crores on a budget of ₹10 crore and became one of the highest-grossing Telugu films of the year. 'Kanche' earned the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Telugu at the 63rd National Film Awards ceremony and the state Nandi Award for Best Film on National Integration. The film was screened at the 2016 edition of the All Lights India International Film Festival. The film is considered one of the '25 Greatest Telugu Films Of The Decade' Varun Tej played the role of Dhupati Haribabu, a captain in the British Indian Army. Varun Tej described the first phase of Haribabu's character as a 23-year-old college pass-out, happy-go-lucky, chilled-out guy. He had to modify his diction according to the timeline and observed the dialogue delivery of actors in old Telugu films. For the second phase, Varun Tej was trained by an army officer on a soldier's body language, and the way to hold guns among other things. He watched films like Saving Private Ryan (1988), The Thin Red Line (1998), Inglourious Basterds(2009), and Fury (2014) as well. He underwent training in a boot camp for more than a week, during the gap between the Indian and Georgia schedules. During the filming of the war sequences in Georgia, Varun Tej was provided with an original Thompson submachine gun, which was manufactured in 1939, and used during the actual war.

‘Fidaa’

Varun Played Varun in this one. The film starred Varun Tej with Sai Pallavi (in her Telugu debut) in the lead roles. The plot follows a love–hate relationship between Bhanumathi (Pallavi), a strong-minded village girl, and her brother-in-law's brother Varun (Tej), an NRI from the US. Released on 21 July 2017, the film was a huge commercial success, grossing over ₹90 crores on a budget of ₹13 crores. The film won four Filmfare Awards from nine nominations, in addition to two SIIMA Awards. Varun was praised for his performance.

‘Tholiprema’

Varun played Aditya in this film. Tholi Prema is a 2018 Indian Telugu-language romantic drama film written and directed by Venky Atluri in his directorial debut. Produced by B. V. S. N. Prasad's Sri Venkateswara Cine Chitra, the film starred Varun Tej and Raashii Khanna. The music is composed by S. Thaman while cinematography and editing are done by George C. Williams and Naveen Nooli respectively. Principal photography of the film took place in London and Hyderabad. Released on 10 February 2018, the film grossed over ₹45 crores at the box-office and was commercially successful. It was remade in Bengali as 'Fidaa' (2018).

‘F2: Fun & Frustration’

Varun again played Varun in this one. 'F2: Fun And Frustration' is a 2019 Indian Telugu-language comedy film written and directed by Anil Ravipudi. Produced by Sri Venkateswara Creations, the film stars Venkatesh, Varun Tej, Tamannaah, and Mehreen Pirzada. The music is composed by Devi Sri Prasad. The plot follows two men who try to control their dominating wives after getting married. 'F2' was released on 12 January 2019 during Sankranthi, and grossed over ₹127.2–140 crore against a budget of ₹30 crores, becoming a major commercial success. F2 was featured in the Indian Panorama Mainstream section of the 50th International Film Festival of India. It is the first film in the Fun and Frustration series with a standalone sequel titled F3: Fun and Frustration released in May 2022.

‘Gaddalakonda Ganesh’

Gaddalakonda Ganesh is a 2019 Indian Telugu-language action comedy film directed by Harish Shankar and produced by Ram Achanta and Gopichand Achanta under the 14 Reels Plus banner. The film stars Varun Tej, Atharvaa, Pooja Hegde, and Mirnalini Ravi. Varun played the principal character of Ganesh and was praised by critics and audiences alike.
