The Maracana is so notorious for booing that even Brazil’s national football team is reluctant in playing at the iconic stadium.  Football legends, presidents, world leaders all have been booed at the Maracana.

Tomorrow (Friday), Brazil’s interim president Michel Temer, who is so unpopular that more than 60% of the population wants fresh elections, will certainly be booed by the crowd. Temer, who is desperately trying to use the games to give a little boost to his abysmal ratings, doesn’t want to be seen heckled by fellow Brazilians in front of a global audience.

So to save Temer from a major embarrassment at his first major engagement, the organization committee of the Olympic have planned an operation to the muffle the booing at the opening ceremony.

As per the plan, as soon as Temer declares the games open, the organizers will play a song at high volume use some sound effects in background so that all the booing is drowned out. Though Temer’s declaration will not last more than 10 seconds, the organisers are still worried that the crowd may jeer him or throw insults in that short duration.

Temer, 75, will attend the ceremony with the first lady to Marcela, a former model who is 42 years younger than the interim president. No major world leader is expected to attend the ceremony.
