The Centre told the apex court on Thursday, all subscribers had to link their mobile phone numbers with Aadhaar by February 6 under E-KYC verification which issues Aadhaar proof is a must to open bank accounts, reported The Times of India

The Unique Identification Authority of India has said that from December 1 people can link Adhaar with phone numbers without going to retailers by using OTP.

"From December 1, users can link the two using a one-time password on their phones. Telecom service providers will not need to verify biometric details to link mobile numbers with Aadhaar" Aadhaar India tweeted.

On March 23, the Department of prepaid and postpaid Telecommunications made it mandatory for all telecom companies to re-verify existing customers through the Aadhaar-based E-KYC process, by February 6, 2018. It said connections that were used only for the internet and did not have incoming or outgoing calling facilities must be linked to another number provided by the user.

The Supreme Court at present is hearing multiple cases against the mandatory linking of more than 50 schemes with Aadhaar.
