Former chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir Mehbooba Mufti and newly elected BJP parliamentarian Gautam Gambhir on Monday once again locked horns on Twitter after the former questioned home minister Amit Shah's policy to rid the valley of violence.

In a tweet, Mehbooba said the problem in Kashmir was "political" and therefore needed "a political redressal" with the involvement of all stakeholders, including Pakistan. "Expecting a quick fix through brute force by newly appointed HM is ridiculously naive."

"History has been witness to our patience and endurance. But if oppression ensures security for my people, then so be it," Gambhir added.

The former cricketer, who defeated AAP's Atishi from East Delhi constituency in the recently concluded Lok Sabha polls, has run into controversies over his comments in the past too.

In April 2019, he had a go at the PDP leader after she claimed that scrapping Article 370 will mean India's Constitution will no longer be applicable in the state and that if Indians do not understand it, they will "disappear" and their "story will be over".

Gambhir retorted to her remarks, saying "This is India, not a blot like you that it will disappear."

Responding to him, Mehbooba said, "Hope your political innings in the BJP is not as abysmal as your cricket career."

Their exchange turned worse with Gambhir hitting back, "Oh! So you have unblocked my twitter handle! You needed 10 hours to respond to my tweet and come up with such a pedestrian analogy! Too slow. It shows the lack of depth in your personality. No wonder you guys have struggled to solve the issues at hand."

Earlier, Gambhir had come to blows with another former chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Omar Abdullah, after the latter said he would work towards restoring the post of separate "president" and "prime minister" for the state.
