A laptop computer containing sensitive information was on Sunday seized from the residence of IfthikarGeelani, son-in-law of arrested Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani, at Malviya Nagar in South Delhi.duringraids carried out by Income Tax officials and the Special Cell of Delhi Police and the Intelligence Bureau

Iftikar Geelani is a journalist who writes for the Pakistan daily, The Nation. Sources claimed thatthe team recovered some incriminating documents and a lap-top computer from his residence

The computer apparently contained the latest data on the movement of the Army along the border areas ofJammu and Kashmir. And the seized papers included Pakistani visa forms and documents pertaining to financialtransactions.

A preliminary scrutiny of the laptop is said to have showed that it contained highly sensitive information,detrimental to national security.

The raids were conducted at Iftikar's residence around 10.30 a.m., after his father-in-law's arrest. Theraiding team, which consisted of over 30 plainclothesmen, detained Iftikar, his wife and some relatives forquestioning. His house was searched till late night.

The seized documents reportedly indicated Iftikar's complicity in the nexus between his father-in-law, theISI and the terrorist organisations operating in the Kashmir Valley.

Apparently IB was called in when the IT officials came across papers and the contents of the computersuggesting Iftikar's links with the Pakistan-based terrorist organisations.

Police said they were trying to find out if Iftikar had used any illegal channel to procure anaccreditation from the Public Information Bureau to cover the Union Home Ministry.

The Special Cell sleuths were also trying to decode the contents of the seized computer and trace thosepersons in Pakistan, with whom Iftikar was in regular contact through the Internet.

The documents, including financial transactions from Lahore and other places in Pakistan, were also beingverified. No FIR has been registered in the case by the Delhi police.

A simultaneous raid was also conducted at the South Delhi residence of the Hurriyat executive member,Gulaam Mohammad Bhatt, alleged to be having links with Syed Ali Shah Geelani.

It is learnt that the raids at the houses of Mr. Geelani's close associates and relatives were conductedfollowing revelations by a Delhi-based insurance agent, Imtiaz Bazaz, and his associates, Gulaam Hussain andAbid Hussain.

Further investigations revealed that through Imtiaz, transactions worth crores of rupees were done in thepast eight months from two accounts opened in the Standard Chartered Grindlays Bank, Connaught Place, and theDevelopment Credit Bank Limited.

We have not been able to reach Ifthikar Geelani for comments.
