Days after hitting a sensational century against hosts South Africa, albeit in a losing cause, Jewel Andrew played a gem of an innings to guide the West Indies to a five-wicket win against Scotland on Wednesday. The win at Senwes Park, Potchefstroom helped the Windies open their account at the ICC Men's Under-19 Cricket World Cup 2024. (Streaming | More Cricket News

Chasing Scotland's 205/9, the 2016 champions reached the target in 35.1 overs with the 17-year-old not out on 64 runs. During his 60-ball knock, the wicketkeeper-batter hit eight fours. The chase, however, got off to an ominous note, losing three wickets for 45 runs in the ninth over.

A 45-run stand in 33 balls between Jordan Johnson (24 off 24) and Mavendra Dindyal (29 off 24) briefly halted the slide, but two wickets in the 14th and 17th overs once again put the Windies chase in jeopardy.

But Andrew, who set a new record for the highest score by a No. 6 or lower in the U-19 ODIs on Friday, was there, this time, completing the chase. He was involved in an unbeaten 95-run stand in 111 balls for the sixth-wicket stand with Nathan Edwards (27 off 56).

Scotland skipper Owen Gould utilised seven bowlers and five managed to take one wicket each but none really tested the Windies middle order, except probably for Qasim Khan (1/43 in 10 overs) and Adi Hegde (1/21 in 7).

Earlier, Stephan Pascal won the toss and opted to bowl first, again. His decision, at first it looked like the youngster had misread the conditions as Jamie Dunk (57 off 87) and Hegde (32 off 72) added 89 runs for the opening stand in 22 overs. Alec Price then hit 31 off 42 before Isai Thorne ran through the lineup with bowling figures of 4/46 in nine overs. Nathan Sealy claimed a brace for 38 in 10 overs.

The win helped the Windies champions move to the second spot in the Group B points table. England, who defeated South Africa on Tuesday, leads the table. Windies take on England on Friday in a clash of former champions while Scotland face South Africa the following day in their respective final group matches.
