Wimbledon: Taylor Fritz Ready For A 'Relaxing Day' After Overcoming Gabriel Diallo Test

Taylor Fritz was playing for the third consecutive day at Wimbledon after his first-round encounter against Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard was suspended due to the 11pm curfew. The American was able to overcome that challenge, which included Mpetshi Perricard hammering the fastest serve in the tournament's history against the 27-year-old

Taylor Fritz is ready for a well-earned rest after surviving another five-set thriller, this time against Gabriel Diallo, to reach the third round at Wimbledon.

The fifth seed overcame a stern test from his Canadian opponent to emerge a 3-6 6-3 7-6 (7-0) 4-6 6-3 victor in a gruelling three-hour and 23-minute battle on Wednesday.

Fritz was playing for the third consecutive day in SW19 after his first-round encounter against Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard was suspended due to the 11pm curfew.

The American was able to overcome that challenge, which included Mpetshi Perricard hammering the fastest serve in the tournament's history against the 27-year-old.

Fritz was then forced to come from a set down against the impressive Diallo, sealing his passage to the next round with a fine serve that his opponent returned into the net.

Indeed, across his first two matches at the grass-court major, Fritz has played 109 total games, the third-most by a male player at Wimbledon in the first two rounds since 2022.

Ahead of the tournament, Fritz also played four matches as he lifted his fourth title at Eastbourne, and he is now looking forward to some time away from the court.

"Tomorrow's going to be a very light hit," Fritz said.

"I think I've played plenty of tennis, coming from four matches in a row in Eastbourne, one day off into a match over two days here and into this. I'm due a nice, relaxing day."

The two-time Wimbledon quarter-finalist has taken on two big-hitters in Mpetshi Perricard and Diallo, facing 63 aces in total during his first two matches at the tournament.

"That's an incredibly hard match. In the four sets I've lost, I really don't think there's much I did wrong at all," Fritz said after his clash with Diallo.

"And I kind of felt like that's the way the match was going. I was going to have to play near-perfect when I got my opportunities. Really happy to get through."

Up next for Fritz is a tie against either Alejandro Davidovich Fokina or Botic van de Zandschulp, whose match was suspended due to bad light late on Wednesday.

The Spaniard leads van de Zandschulp 6-1, 4-6, 6-3, 5-5, with Davidovich Fokina missing a match point on return at 5-3 in the fourth set.
