Sergio Busquets To Join Former Barcelona Teammate Lionel Messi At Inter Miami

The team confirmed the move Friday in a video posted on Twitter. Inter Miami displayed the phrase “Busi,” referring to Busquets’ nickname, accompanied by quotes from various soccer stars.

After nearly two decades with Barcelona, Busquets announced last month that he would not return.

Inter Miami made the signing official by posting a video on Twitter, which had the phrase 'Busi' displayed, along with quotes from various football stars.

“On the field, he’s always No. 5, but in reality, as a player and a person, he’s a 10,” Messi wrote in Spanish.

On June 7, amid speculations of him joining a club in Saudi Arabia from Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), Messi announced that he would be joining Inter Miami in the United States. The team confirmed on Tuesday that the football star would be making his MLS debut in a home match on July 21.

Busquets, on the other hand, after serving FC Barcelona for nearly two decades, informed the owners that he won't be returning to the club for the new season. His contract expires at the end of June.

Busquets made his debut for the Catalan club in 2005 and has played 722 matches for them. It puts him behind Xavi and Messi as the third all-time player to play the most number of games for the club. Considered one of the best defensive midfielders, Busquets scored 18 goals and provided 40 assists during his stint. He also captained the side in the last two seasons.

As for Inter Miami, it is their second-biggest signing this season, as they look to climb through the ranks. Currently, they are the 15th-placed team in the league comprising 15 teams.
