Martinez's antics at the showpiece tournament were slammed by former footballers and pundits alike.

The Argentina goalkeeper, who displayed exceptional performances on multiple occasions, came under fire for his celebrations after saving penalty kicks and after winning the Golden Glove trophy went viral.

Unfortunately for many football fans and critics, his theatrics did not end there, as Martinez was seen parading a baby doll with Kylian Mbappe's mask around its face during Argentina's open-bus trophy celebrations in Buenos Aires.

“When you have big emotions, sometimes it’s difficult to control it," the Villa manager said while talking to reporters. "I will speak with him next week about some celebrations. But for now, I respect that he is now with his national team. When he is going to be us and under our responsibility, we can speak about it then.”

The English Premier League returns to action on Boxing Day with Aston Villa taking on Liverpool in one of their toughest tests this season. Martinez, though, will not be a part of that team, as the manager has decided to give the star goalkeeper a much-deserved rest.
