Pakistan scripted history by becoming the first team in recording a highest successful run-chase in the history of the World Cup with their six-wicket win over Sri Lanka in the World Cup 2023 fixture. Opting to bat first, Kusal Mendis (122) and Sadeera Samarawickrama (108) scored centuries as Sri Lanka posted a huge total of 344/9. Mendis clobbered 14 fours and six sixes to make 122 off 77 balls and was involved in two century partnerships. He added 102 runs with Pathum Nissanka (51) for the second wicket and 111 with Samarawickrama for the third. In reply, Pakistan lost two early wickets but Abdullah Shafique (113) and Mohammad Rizwan (131*) motored along to take the Men In Green towards the huge score. Rizwan hit the winning runs as Pakistan registered their second consecutive win following up from their win over the Netherlands whereas Sri Lanka will still ponder as to how did they lose despite the early pressure.Get PAK vs SL highlights here. 10:27 pm: PAK Win - 348/4 In 48.2 Overs - Highlights
Led by magnificent centuries from Abdullah Shafique and Mohammad Rizwan, Pakistan have chased down a mammoth 344. Sri Lanka's bowling was again toothless in attack as they were sent to the cleaners by the Pakistani batters all across the stadium. Matheesha Pathirana gave away 90 runs in ten overs with a single wicket to his name. Dasun Shanaka's problems are mounting with Sri Lanka beaten two in two at the World Cup.

9:45 pm: PAK 271/3 - Overs 30-40 Highlights
Abdullah Shafique hits his first ODI century in 97 balls. Dilshan Mahushanka starts his spell and both batters take 19 runs off the over. Substitute fielder Hemantha takes a stunner to send off dangerous Abdullah Shafique. Maheesh Theekshana returns for the spell and concedes 5 wides. Rizwan is nearing his century. Pakistan need 74 runs in 60 balls now.

8:45 pm: PAK 182/2 - Overs 20-30 Highlights
Shafique-Rizwan pair is taking baby steps and reaching near the target. Shafique hits some bog hits. Rizwan took a cautious approach and played run-a-ball. Abdullah Shafique also hits Asalanka for a four in his first over. The required run rate was above 8 and both batters started to shift gears, hitting Pathirana for a 12-run over and Wellalage also followed the same path and conceded 12 in the over. Before that Rizwan completed his fifty in 58 balls.

8:10 pm: PAK 110/2 - Overs 10-20 Highlights
Mohammad Rizwan and Abdullah Shafique played brilliantly and soaked all the pressure that Sri Lanka's early strikes created on Pakistan. Sri Lankan bowlers bowled a few tight overs in between and did not give any chance to the Pakistani batters. Abdullah kept rotating the strike and Rizwan also did not take any risk. Shafique came to his fifty in 58 balls.  

7:15 pm: PAK 48/2 - Overs 0-10 Highlights
Pakistan started the chase on a positive note but Imam-Ul-Haq 12(12) departed in the 4th over and Babar Azam also got out in the bowling of Dilshan Madhushanka. He was bowling quickly and in good lengths. Abdullah Shafique and Mohammad Rizwan are at the crease. Sri Lanka dominated the first 10 overs.

Sri Lankan middle-order batters could not make full use of the momentum that was set by the top-order batters. Sadera Samarawickrama 108(89) got out after completing his century. And Dasun Shanaka also could not contribute much today, as the Sri Lankan innings finished on 344/9 after all 50 overs.

5:15 pm: SL 283/4 - Overs 30-40 Highlights
Sri Lankan batters have played some positive cricket today and are eyeing a big total now. Pakistan got the big wicket of Charith Asalanka for just 1 run. Hasan Ali dismissed him. Spinners have not been efficient today. Samarawickrama reached his fifty in just 43 balls. Shadab Khan and Nawaz leaked many runs.

Haris Rauf has been very costly so far. He goes for 20 runs in the 21st over. Kusal Mendis wins everything today and hits the fastest ton in World Cups for Sri Lanka in just 65 balls. He also hit consecutive three boundaries off Shaheen Afridi. In the 29th over, Hasan Ali dismisses Kusal Mendis for 122(77).

3:35 pm: SL 127/2 - Overs 10-20 Highlights
Nissanka got trapped in the Shadab Khan's spin web after scoring his fifty. Sadeera Samarawickrama is now on the crease with Kusal Mendis who also completed his fifty. Sri Lanka played some beautiful shots in the last 10 overs and a six off covers on Haris Rauf was so beautiful to watch. Shadab Khan and Haris Rauf bowled most of the overs and Shadab managed to get the important wicket of Pathum Nissanka 51(61).

2:50 pm: SL 58/1 - Overs 1-10 Highlights
Nissanka starts the Sri Lankan innings with a four off Shaheen's first over. But Hasan Ali struck early with Kusal Perera's wicket in his first over and put pressure on Sri Lanka. Kusal Mendis soaks all the pressure and manages to find boundaries in between. Kusal Mendis is very lucky today. Pakistan's fielding have been ordinary so far. Shaheen and Imam-ul-haq dropped Kusal Mendis's catch on two occasions. Both batters have fully utilised these fielding mistakes and made runs comfortably.
