The toss has been delayed due to rain. It has been raining in Thiruvananthapuram for the past week or so and covers on at the ground. We can only hope for the rain to relent soon for play to be underway.

India and the Netherlands have faced each other twice in One-Day Internationals with the former winning both encounters. The two teams met for the first time during the 2003 World Cup group stage in Paarl, South Africa. Despite posting a below-par score of 204 all out, India registered a 68-run win thanks to four-wicket hauls from Javagal Srinath and Anil Kumble. They met once again during the 2011 World Cup, and India chased down Netherlands' 189 all out in 36.3 overs for a five-wicket win in Delhi.

After the Guwahati stupor, the Indian national cricket team head to Thiruvananthapuram in the hope of getting some game time against the Netherlands. After beating Australia 2-1 in the three-match ODI series, the Indian team landed in Guwahati for their first ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 warm-up game. But the fixture against defending champions England was abandoned without a ball bowled, with no toss. The Netherlands did play their warm-up match against Australia in Thiruvananthapuram but it was declared a no-result, also due to rain. Elsewhere in China, another Indian team started their 2023 Asian Games men's cricket competition with a fighting quarter-final win against Nepal.
