India At Asian Para Games 2023: Deepthi Jeevanji Clinches Gold, Shatters Games And Asian Records In Women's 400m-T20

Leading the way by a huge margin, India's Deepthi Jeevanji clinched the gold medal in the women's 400m-T20 event at the Asian Para Games 2023, and shattered the Asian record as well as the Para Asian Games record in the process with her blazing run. Deepthi clocked a timing of 56.69 seconds to finish more than two whole seconds ahead of her nearest rival Orawan Kaising of Thailand, who secured the silver medal with a time of 59s. The medal rush continued in athletics on Day 2 as Ajay Kumar bagged the silver medal in the men's 400m-T64 event with a personal best of 54.85s. He finished behind Saudi Arabia's Nour Mohammed S Asana, who broke the Asian record and the Games record with a timing of 52.81s. Jafa Seapla of Thailand bagged the bronze medal, clocking 55.09s. India's Vinay Kumar Lal narrowly missed a medal, finishing fourth with a time of 55.49s.

In the 100m T12 event, Simran secured the silver medal with a timing of 12.68s, just behind Indonesia's Ni Made Ariante Putri who won gold with a time of 12.52s. China's Yaqin Shen bagged bronze with a timing of 12.78s.

Elsewhere, in the women's club throw - F32/51, Ekta Bhyan secured a bronze medal with a best throw of 21.66 metres. Iran's Habibi Parastoo took the gold with a throw of 22.88m.
