With the Brazilians holding a 2–0 lead at the 62-minute mark, English referee Anthony Taylor halted proceedings at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, following safety protocols amid nearby storm warnings. Despite clear skies overhead, lightning was detected close enough to trigger an automatic pause in play.
The match was halted just after the hour mark due to the forecast of an approaching storm.
Fans at MetLife Stadium, the venue slated to host next year’s World Cup final, were promptly instructed to "take shelter" inside the concourse as a safety precaution.
Even the DAZN commentators weren’t spared; they had to cut their live broadcast short and return to the concourse themselves, handing coverage back to the studio amid the unexpected suspension.
This marks the second weather-related interruption in the tournament so far. Earlier this week, the Group F clash between South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns and South Korea’s Ulsan in Orlando faced a 65-minute delay before kickoff, also due to lightning threats in the area.
