Few have been shunted up and down the batting order like Mohammed Kaif in the 'flexibility' campaign. He has opened the innings and batted at every slot, from No. 3 to 7, in the 34 matches he has played under the new dispensation. He's returned an average of 36.30 (835 runs), including a century and six half-centuries. With the three 50s in the Windies, he seems to have overcome a dry patch when he made just 53 runs in 11 games. But he sat out of two games in KL. He'll be another hoping for a show of faith from the selectors.

Southpaw Yuvraj Singh is among the Indian cricketers who's generally been on top of their game in the Dravid-Chappell era. He averages 51.20 in the 40 matches he played in this time—1536 runs including five centuries and eight half-centuries—an ample reflection of his growing stature. But in the last nine games, he has scored just 214 runs (average 26.75). That includes two ducks in Kuala Lumpur. He needs a confidence boost to ensure that he returns to the kind of form that made him Man of the Series in Pakistan and against England not too long ago.
