India ended Day 1 of the second Test against Sri Lanka in a strong position at 300/5, thanks largely to Devdutt Padikkal’s superb 117. After winning the toss and batting first, India lost wickets at regular intervals, while Rishabh Pant was forced to retire hurt after being struck on the forearm. Padikkal, however, held the innings together despite being dropped twice early on 0 and 1, registering his second Test century.
