- Review needs of children who require special care including those in distress, in conflict with law, juveniles, orphans and children of prisoners.
- Examine all factors that curtail the rights of children affected by terrorism, communal violence, riots, natural disaster, domestic violence, HIV/AIDS and human trafficking.
- Take suo motu notice of cases involving violation of rights. Will have the authority of a civil court.
- Monitor laws relating to child survival, welfare and development.
