The Uttar Pradesh government introduced the 'Chief Minister Fellowship Program' dedicated to "Aspirational Cities" in alignment with the Union government's Aspirational Development Block initiative.

The urban development department, in adherence to the chief minister's directives, commenced online registrations for the program under the Aspirational City Scheme on December 4, 2023.

Uttar Pradesh takes the lead as the inaugural state to embark on a development venture akin to the Aspirational City Scheme, as emphasized in the official press release. This innovative initiative actively encourages the participation of the youth and other citizens in the state's urban development, planning, management, and monitoring, according to the release.

Recently endorsed by the cabinet of the Yogi Adityanath-led government, the 'Aspirational City Plan' aims to foster fresh employment opportunities and elevate essential urban amenities, education, health, and social infrastructure in 100 small cities with populations ranging from 20,000 to one lakh.

Empowering Youth through CM Fellowship Program

The CM Fellowship Program stands out as a pivotal element within the Aspirational City Scheme, empowering youth to play an active role in urban development, planning, management, and monitoring. This initiative not only nurtures independent thought and innovation but also opens avenues for potential placements in the government sector for high-performing fellows.

Guided by CM Yogi Adityanath's vision, the program catalyzes to eliminate youth apathy, injecting enthusiasm and motivation. This collaborative effort, emphasizing skill development, is poised to make a significant impact on Uttar Pradesh's urban development landscape.

Key focal areas within the scheme encompass urban infrastructure, social infrastructure, urban local governance, economic opportunities, climate, and disaster resilience.

To be eligible for the CM Fellowship Program, applicants must hold a Bachelor's degree or higher qualification in the relevant field, with a maximum age limit of 40 years. Proficiency in both Hindi and English, coupled with competence in working with computers and information and communication technology, is also a prerequisite.
