Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Friday handed keys of 76 flats, built on land confiscated from slain gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed, to the poor in Prayagraj.

Ahead of the inauguration, Yogi was seen interacting with the children at the site of the flat and investigating the residential complex that has 76 flats in two blocks, a community hall and a park. The complex has been built on the 1,731-square-meter plot in the Lukerganj area of the city.

On December 26, 2021, Adityanath laid the foundation stone while the Prayagraj Development Authority (PDA) had prepared the blueprint for the housing project.

According to officials, 6,031 people had applied for the flats under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) scheme but only 1,590 were declared eligible for the scheme following scrutiny of the documents. The flats were allotted based on a lottery on June 9 at the Allahabad Medical Association (AMA) auditorium.
