The decision to choose the next chief minister of Karnataka will be taken in the next 48-72 hours, AICC-in-charge of state Randeep Surjewala addressed the media amid speculations.

"Delibrations are currently underway by party president Mallikarjun Kharge. Whenever Congress makes a decision we will inform you. In the next 48-72 hours, we will have a new cabinet in Karnataka," he further said.

Earlier, the former chief minister of Karnataka Basavaraj Bommai took a hit at Congress for delaying the decision and accused them of politicising the situation.

Bharatiya Janata Party leader Basavaraj Bommai is now acting as the caretaker CM till the new CM takes an oath. He reportedly said, "Congress is yet to finalise its CM candidate in spite of getting a majority. This shows the internal situation in the party. The aspirations of people are more important than politicking. Congress should choose a CM as soon as possible”.

The two CM candidates are currently in Delhi and were supposed to speak to top party leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi today.

While the supporters of both leaders are pitching for their respective leaders, Congress is working on a power-sharing formula to accommodate all sections.

According to reports, the supporters of Siddaramaiah were seen celebrating the decision of choosing Siddaramaiah even though the decision is not official yet.

Siddaramaiah is considered the front-runner among the two, while Shivakumar has dug his heels for the top post claiming that the state was won under him as state party chief and that he has worked hard for ensuring this victory.
