Himachal Pradesh: Earthquake Of 5.3 Magnitude Jolts Chamba District; No Casualty, Damage Of Property Reported

According to the National Centre for Seismology (NCS), the earthquake occurred at 9.34 pm in Himachal Pradesh's Chamba district. The meteorological department in Shimla said the earthquake occurred at a depth of 10 km from the ground.

An earthquake of 5.3 magnitude jolted Himachal Pradesh's Chamba district on Thursday, according to the National Centre for Seismology (NCS).

NCS said that the earthquake occurred at 9.34 pm. It has been reported the earthquake lasted for few seconds but the tremors were felt across North India.

According to the meteorological department in Shimla, the earthquake occurred at a depth of 10 km in Chamba district.

No loss of life or property has been reported from any part of Himachal Pradesh in earthquake that lasted a few seconds, officials said.

Massive quake in Himachal back in 1905

On this day back in 1905, an 8-magnitude earthquake in Himachal's Kangra had led to large-scale death and destruction where over 20,000 people had died.

Before today's quake, low-intensity tremors were recorded in Himachal Pradesh's Chamoli and Lahaul and Spiti on April 1.
