The fire could have been contained if the authorities took early action, reportedly said a local.

A man named Karandeep Singh reportedly said, "The fire had broke out in Jagmohan Plywood. The fire tenders took more than one hour to arrive. We used our own fire extinguishers to try to control the blaze. The fire was restricted to one section of the premises, but later spread. It could have been controlled if fire tenders had rushed a little."

Reportedly the police said that a patrol team of Gandhi Nagar police station came across smoke from the Jagmohan Plywood store located in front of NRP at 3.55 am. A PCR call was made while they tried to douse it with water. But the dry wood spread the fire quickly.

The police officer reportedly said that the plywood took a while to cool down, and his store was completely destroyed. It's still not clear how much of the property was lost.

Gandhi Nagar MLA Anil Kumar Bajpai said that a space has been allocated to set up a local fire station to give swift relief in such eventualities.

"The space has been allotted for Gandhi Nagar fire station. A delegation of market association, along with me, have met Delhi Fire director Atul Garg twice. It has to be built with an expense of Rs 2.27 crore," he said.

He also added, "I spoke to Garg who said the department has submitted the proposal and now the file is with a minister of the Delhi government. Gandhi Nagar is the biggest ready made garments market and it should have its own fire station."
