They were opened with much fanfare during Ajit Jogi’s tenure. Now the very same universities have got distress sale ads running in local dailies. The Dr Raman Singh-led bjp government decision to cull the number of varsities in the state (101 at last count) has ‘private players’ in a panic. A new modified Private Universities Act has also made it mandatory for universities to deposit a security of Rs 2 crore and buy at least 25 acres of land in or around Raipur. Some 59 universities have already been derecognised. It seems like pack up time for Shristi University and New Age University. And whatever happened to the one and only Lovely University?
