Union Home Minister Amit Shah responded to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's recent "panauti" comments against Prime Minister Modi, calling them "below the belt." Shah expressed confidence that voters in Telangana would respond fittingly through their votes in the upcoming assembly elections, as reported by PTI.

The term "panauti," a Hindi slang loosely translating to someone who brings bad luck, was used by Rahul Gandhi in a recent poll speech in Rajasthan. This comment followed Prime Minister Modi's attendance at the World Cup cricket final that India lost to Australia after 10 consecutive wins in the tournament.

Addressing the media on the matter, Shah noted that whenever derogatory language had been used against the Prime Minister in the past, voters across the country had responded fittingly in various state elections. He emphasized his belief that the voters of Telangana would similarly respond to what he deemed "below the belt" language through their votes.

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman had previously criticized Gandhi's remarks, describing them as "despicably poor" and accusing him of continuing the Congress tradition of using abusive names for the Prime Minister.
