When have you last been to India and what are your links with the country?
I was in India in 1997. Most of my extended family moved out of India and I only have a first cousin in UP. But I have lots of friends in India and many of them have been calling starting from 3:30 in the morning!

What are your most vivid memories of India?
Have you ever sucked at a sugarcane? Do you speak Punjabi? Those are the kinds of things I remember... My fondest memories are of having makki ki roti, playing gulli danda...

How much Indianness do you maintain in your lifestyle here in Canada?
I would say I’m absolutely Indian here but what exactly are you talking about?

Well, for instance, what about the food you eat at home?
It is 95 per cent Indian at home though I eat out a lot, when I prefer Chinese food.

Have you experienced any racism here?
What I can say is that BC has been very good to me and my family. I don’t believe there have been any overt forms of racism although racism is very much a reality here. As a place, BC is still much better and one of the most progressive places to live in, though I do know we still have lots to do to make it better. But definitely in 50 years, it has changed very dramatically.
