Carlyle Group LP-backed Litmus Music, a firm that specializes in catalog rights, on Monday revealed that it has acquired the rights to Katy Perry's five studio albums, which were formerly distributed by Capitol Records. According to the reports, Litmus shelled out a sizable $225 million to acquire Katy Perry's ownership interest in the master recording royalties and music publishing rights for her five albums.
Which are the albums included?
This catalog contains Katy Perry’s Grammy-nominated and critically acclaimed album Teenage Dream and others. One of the Boys, Teenage Dream, PRISM, Witness, and Smile are the albums in this collection, which cover the years 2008 through 2020. The catalog also includes 16 multi-platinum singles. Litmus has opted not to provide particular information about the agreement's conditions.
Katy Perry has achieved a record total of nine No. 1 songs on the Billboard Hot 100 since her breakthrough with the single ‘I Kissed A Girl’ in July 2008, and from her astounding feat of having five chart-topping titles from the 2010 album ‘Teenage Dream.’ This incredible achievement took place at a period of music when notable female pop musicians like Lady Gaga, Beyoncé, Rihanna, Taylor Swift, and Adele had a number of huge successes. Notably, Katy Perry is just the second performer in history—behind Michael Jackson—to ever send five songs from a single album to the top of the Hot 100 chart. California Gurls, Firework, E.T., Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F. ), and Teenage Dream are the five tracks mentioned.
With a seamless blending of pop, rock, and electronic elements, Katy Perry's often-thought-provoking lyrics connect with a global audience. Perry's rise to fame began in the middle of the 2000s with the publication of her debut album, Katy Hudson. She entered the popular music industry with the release of her second album, One of the Boys, in 2008, which featured the hits I Kissed a Girl and Hot n Cold. Since then, she has continuously released albums that have gone to the top of the charts, such as Teenage Dream, Prism, and Witness.
