Japan's East Coast of Honshu Hit by 6 Magnitude Earthquake, No Damage Reported

An earthquake of magnitude 6 struck off the east coast of Honshu, Japan on Thursday, as confirmed by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre. 

There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries after the earthquake, whose epicentre had a depth of 40 kilometres (25 miles) and which was also felt in Tokyo.

This seismic event comes a day after a powerful earthquake struck Taiwan on Wednesday, resulting in at least nine fatalities and over 1,000 injuries. 

The magnitude-7.4 earthquake damaged numerous buildings in Taiwan and triggered tsunami warnings reaching as far as Japan and the Philippines.

The geographical location of Japan makes it an earthquake-prone zone with hundreds of quakes hitting it every year and not all lead to casualties.

According to Reuters, Japan accounts for about 20 per cent of the world's earthquakes of magnitude 6 or greater, and each year experiences up to 2,000 quakes that can be felt by people.
