Meet Sanyam Kumar, a data science professional from Dehradun, India that found his calling in utilizing data to better understand disease areas and identify patients ahead of time. Sanyam Kumar's passion for data science and healthcare innovation has led him on a remarkable journey from Dehradun, India to being recognized among the top 100 AI leaders shaping the healthcare analytics field in the USA.
After earning his engineering degree in India and working for three years at Accenture, Sanyam set his sights on advancing his education. Back in 2014, he turned towards data science and analytics and enrolled in a rigorous online course called Analytics Edge at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), US. After completing the course, he decided to dig deeper into the nuances of the field and moved to the University of Connecticut to pursue a master’s in business Analytics in 2015.

Equipped with cutting-edge skills in machine learning, AI, predictive modeling, data mining and statistical analysis, Sanyam quickly built an impressive track record applying AI and analytics to solve pressing healthcare challenges.
Over his 10-year career, Sanyam has worked at leading healthcare consulting and pharmaceutical companies. In his current role as Associate Director of Data Science at Genmab, a Danish biotech firm that specializes in oncology drugs in the Lymphoma space, he creates AI driven models leveraging real-world data to power decision-making across research, commercialization, and innovation.
One of his proudest accomplishments was using AI APIs to generate adverse event reports using medical research papers for genes, thereby helping researchers better perform safety/toxicity assessments. He also pioneered Machine Learning product for identifying rare disease patients using claims, lab data and has worked on analyzing physician interviews across multiple therapeutic areas across the globe thereby enabling stakeholders to better understand the standard of care for different cancers.

He has also worked on building novel techniques to identify potential sites for Clinical trials thereby helping in getting care to patients faster and reduce costs for the organization. He thinks that the biggest challenge in healthcare data science is the continuity of data or the coverage in claims data especially when a patient moves from one payer to another. He also believes in overcoming this challenge by applying sanity checks and leveraging statistical techniques.
Sanyam's brilliance in using AI for in healthcare data science was recognized in 2023 when he received the AI 100 award from AIM Research (Analytics India Magazine). This cemented his reputation as one of the most influential AI leaders shaping the field in the USA and was also added as a Senior Member to the AAIA (Asia-Pacific AI Association).
