The year 2023 has been a great one for Hindi films. Movies like 'Jawan', 'Pathaan', 'The Kerala Story', 'Gadar 2' and 'Animal' among others shattered the box office and they have registered their names in the coveted club of 'blockbusters'. Apart from Bollywood blockbusters, South Indian films have also done a terrific job when it comes to smashing the box office records and minting moolah.

'Jailer'

Superstar Rajnikanth always creates magic when he comes on screen. With 'Jailer' also he did the same. Apart from the film, the song 'Kaavaalaa' featuring Tamannaah Bhatia, became a chartbuster. It was played everywhere and people started making reels on the hook step. It became a rage on social media. The Tamil-language action comedy was directed by Nelson Dilipkumar and earned Rs 604.5 crore globally, Rs 348.55 crore net and Rs 408.5 crore gross in India.

'Leo'

'Leo' was one of the most talked about movies of this year. Directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, the film starred Thalapathy Vijay in the lead role. The film also featured Sanjay Dutt, Arjun Sarja, Trisha Krishnan, and Gautham Vasudev Menon. 'Leo' earned Rs 341.04 crore net, and Rs 401.9 crore gross in India gross. Globally, it raked in Rs 605.9 crore. 

'Ponniyin Selvan 2'

After the success of 'Ponniyin Selvan-1' in 2022, Mani Ratnam came with the second instalment of the historical action drama in 2023. It received a positive response at the box office. The magnum opus pocketed Rs 344.63 crore worldwide, Rs 181.96 crore in India net, and Rs 214.63 crore in India gross. It starred Vikram, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Sobhita Dhulipala, Karthi and Jayam Ravi in pivotal roles.

'Veera Simha Reddy'

Nandamuri Balakrishna's 'Veera Simha Reddy' is one of the major hits of 2023. The film conquered the box office with its collections Ballaya played a dual role. Shruti Haasan played the female lead. It made a gross collection of Rs 134 crore worldwide.

'2018: Everyone Is A Hero'

Jude Anthany Joseph's Malayalam movie '2018: Everyone is a Hero' received lots of appreciation. The Tovino Thomas starrer was a commercial success as it made a total collection of Rs 177 core worldwide. 

These are the top five films so far which are theatrical success. Now, 'Salaar: Part 1 - Ceasefire' has been creating a tsunami at the box office since its release. Prabhas starrer 'Salaar' is a Telugu language action movie which released on December 22. It created history on its opening day as it earned over Rs 90 crore. The worldwide collection of the Prashanth Neel directorial on Day 5 stands at Rs 391.5 crore and the gross India collection is Rs 301.5 crore.
