One-day workshop aimed at enhancing awareness among Gujarat Mineral Development Corporation Ltd. (GMDC) officials was organized at GMDC’s International Centre of Excellence in Mining Safety & Automation (iCEM), Dev Dholera featuring senior authorities from the Central Ground Water Authority (CGWA) and Gujarat Pollution Control Board (GPCB).
Dr. Ratikanta Nayak, Regional Director (WCR, Ahmedabad), CGWA, along with a team of senior scientists, led an insightful session on statutory guidelines on groundwater abstraction norms, NOC procedures, and monitoring protocols. Their session emphasized the importance of direct regulatory engagement in fostering responsible mining practices and strengthening environmental governance.
GPCB's session was spearheaded by Shri Mehul Patel, Unit Head – IT Cell, who showcased the XGN 2.0 portal. This demonstration highlighted the streamlined processes for online submissions, compliance tracking, and offered practical solutions to common industry challenges.
The workshop also featured a dedicated segment by Ernst & Young (EY) on Business Responsibility and Sustainability Reporting (BRSR). EY experts provided a comprehensive overview of the BRSR framework, emphasizing its ESG linkage, disclosure requirements, gap analysis in data management, and documents needed for third-party assurance. This segment aimed to equip teams with best practices for reliable and transparent sustainability reporting.
Senior GMDC officials, including Sh. Swagat Ray, GM (PP&D)/Tech-IV, and Sh. Chirag Shah, GM (Environment), reaffirmed GMDC’s commitment to transparency, regulatory compliance, and sustainable resource management. The event showcased the collaborative efforts of CGWA, GPCB, and iCEM in advancing environmental stewardship across Gujarat’s mining sector.
