A devastating spell of fast bowling from Mohammed Shami broke the backbone of South African batting line-up on Day 5 of the first Test match at Visakhapatnam and set up a comfortable 203-run win for India.
Chasing a target of 395 runs, South Africa got off to a poor start, losing Dean Elgar and Theunis de Bruyn to spinners Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin respectively. Then, Shami rocked the Proteas with three dismissals, those of Temba Bavuma, Faf du Plessis and Quinton de Kock, each of them getting knocked out.

Shami produced another beauty to dismiss Dane Piedt to leave the Proteas tottering at 161/9 soon after lunch. He then completed five-wicket haul with the last wicket, that of Kagiso Rabada, caught behind, as India took a 1-0 lead in the series.
