Amid the ongoing debate over the merits and demerits of the new farm laws and the protests against them, small farmers are suffering due to low prices being offered to them from their produce.
In yet another such heart-breaking incident, farmers in Uttarakhand were left with no option, but to destroy their banana crop, due to low prices.
The farmers, three brothers from Sitarganj area in Uttam Singh Nagar District destroyed their 4.25 acres banana crops, Hindustan Times reported.
According to them, they had planted banana plants on the advice of horticulture officials in 2019, but when it was ready for harvest they failed to get buyers and proper rates for the crop.

According to reports, Ramesh Yadav, one of the three brothers said that their crop was ready in January, but it failed to attract buyers. He said that he had even gone to Pilibhit and Bareilly in search of buyers, but failed to get a good offer.
The brothers said they were left with no option, but to destroy the crop that they had put their hard work on for over a year.
In December, hundreds of farmers from Andhra Pradesh were forced to sell their tomatoes at 10 paise per kg.
