Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday moved the resolution in the Lok Sabha to revoke Article 370 which gave special status to Jammu and Kashmir. Shah also introduced Jammu and Kashmir (Reorganisation) Bill, 2019 in the Lower House.

A resolution removing the special status of the state under Article 370 was approved by the Rajya Sabha on Monday with Shah saying the constitutional provision was the "root cause of terrorism" in the state, and that the Modi government was committed to making the state the most progressive in the country.

7:19 PM: Parliament approves abrogation of special status given to Jammu and Kashmir under Article 370. Resolution passed in Lok Sabha by division of votes with 351 members in support and 72 against it; one member abstains.

6:59 PM: Congress leader Jyotiraditya Scindia says he supports the move on J-K and Ladakh and Kashmir's full integration into Union of India, adding it would have been better if constitutional process was followed. He says this is in country's interest. He took to Twitter to say: "I support the move on #JammuAndKashmir & #Ladakh and its full integration into union of India. Would have been better if constitutional process had been followed. No questions could have been raised then. Nevertheless, this is in our country’s interest and I support this."

6:12 PM: The Congress Working Committee will meet on Tuesday evening and is likely to discuss the Kashmir issue, party sources said. The meeting comes in the wake of the government's decision to abrogate provisions of Article 370 which gives special status to Jammu and Kashmir.

5:51 PM: Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad in Lok Sabha: "Those who favour terrorists are afraid of abrogation of Article 370."

5:34 PM: Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan addressed a joint session Parliament and said that the abrogation of Article 370 is not a decision they [the BJP] have taken out of the blue. "It was part of their election manifesto all along. It is, in fact, ingrained in their ideology that puts Hindus above all other religions and seeks to establish a state that represses all other religious groups," Dawn News reported Khan as saying.

"What they did in Kashmir is in accordance with their ideology. They have a racist ideology," he declared.

"They have violated their own country's and international laws to [uphold] their ideology."

5:21 PM: Congress Working Committee to meet this evening, likely to discuss Kashmir issue.

3:01 PM: After Amit Shah said in the Lok Sabha said that Farooq Abdullah was at his home out of his own will, the former Chief Minister of J&K said the Home Minister of India is lying. "I was detained at my home," Farooq Abdullah told NDTV.

2:43 PM:  As internet, mobile and landline services remain suspended in Kashmir for the second day,  National Security Advisor Ajit Doval is in the Valley today to review the security situation. 

1:36 PM: Meanwhile, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has reacted to Centre's decision to abrogate Article 370. 

1:32 PM: News agency ANI reports ruckus in Pakistan Parliament as the Opposition objects to Prime Minister Imran Khan's absence from the joint session to hold a discussion on Kashmir. Session proceedings stopped even before starting as the Speaker left for his chamber.

1:09 PM:  Meanwhile, the situation in all three regions of Jammu and Kashmir is "totally peaceful", amid unprecedented security cover and restrictions, top officials said.

There are no untoward reports from anywhere in the state, Director General of Police Dilbagh Singh said from Srinagar, a day after the Centre revoked Jammu and Kashmir's special status and proposed to bifurcate the state into two union territories.

12:37 PM:  R Ballu addresses Amit Shah, saying you were well placed to hold elections first before moving the motion to revoke Article 370.

12:06 PM:  "Congress says Nehru integrated J&K with India, but I say that Nehru disintegrated the state. On Sheikh Abdullah's request, he imposed Article 370 first and then Article 35A," says Jugal Kishore Sharma.

12:05 PM: Jugal Kishore Sharma, the BJP MP from Jammu, is now speaking on the motion to revoke Article 370.  "Article 370 was a blot imposed on us by Nehru," he says. 

12:03 PM: "Where are Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti?" asks DMK.  DMK MP, Dayanidhi Maran says Mr Farooq Abdullah, a member of this House is missing. "He is arrested. We have no intimation. You, as a Speaker, should protect the members. You should be neutral."

12:00 noon: Home Minister asks Manish Tiwari if Congress party wants Article 370 to go or not.  Manish Tiwari says the government's method of abrogating Article 370  is a "constitutional tragedy".

11:57 AM: This is the first time that a state is being bifurcated into two Union Territories, says Manish Tiwari. "If Junagarh, Hyderabad and Jammu and Kashmir joined India, it was because of former PM Jawaharlal Nehru."

8:08 AM:  The US is "closely" observing the events in Jammu and Kashmir following the revocation of Article 370 of the Constitution by the Indian government and urged all stakeholders to maintain peace and stability along the Line of Control (LoC). 

8:06 AM: Meanwhile, a US-based Muslim advocacy group, has announced it will hold a protest in front of the Indian Embassy here on Tuesday against the revoking of Article 370 of the Constitution which gave special status to Jammu and Kashmir.

The group Sound Vision, which claims to be North America's pioneering Muslim media organisation, said demonstrations will also be held outside Indian consulates in New York and Chicago.

8:02 AM: National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval and other top security officials will visit Jammu and Kashmir to review the security situation today. 

7:58 AM: Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik on Monday night reviewed the security situation and emphasised the need for constant alertness and preparedness to deal with any eventuality after the Centre scrapped Article 370 of the Constitution which accorded special status to the state.

According to a Raj Bhawan spokesperson, the government held a meeting with top officials and reviewed the prevailing security and law and order scenario in the state.
