CBI Begins Probe

The CBI has begun probe into the international angle of the kidnapping of aNon-Rresident Indian (NRI) by suspected gangsters belonging to the BablooSrivastav and Abu Salem gangs. The agency has also sought the co-operation fromthe UAE government in this regard, sources said on Tuesday.

A one-member CBI team visited UAE in this connection and sought details andverification of some telephone numbers that had been identified during theinvestigations into the kidnapping of T. Siddiq in March last, they said.

CBI along with special cell of Delhi Police had shot dead three personsincluding the hitman of the two gangs, Virender Pant, in an encounter at SouthDelhi on March 18.

The joint operation by the two agencies was to rescue a UAE-based businessmanT. Siddiq, who was kidnapped by the gang on March 11 after he arrived at theIndira Gandhi Airport.

Besides Pant, Sunil Nathani and Sanjay Khanna were also shot dead in theencounter which lasted 15 minutes at Sarvpriya Vihar in South Delhi.

The CBI sources said the agency sleuths, headed by Joint Director of EconomicOffences wing Neeraj Kumar, had sought co-operation from the UAE to unravel theinternational angle behind the case. (PTI)
