D Gukesh pulled off a stunning comeback at Norway Chess 2025, defeating World No. 1 Magnus Carlsen in their classical match for the first time. The 18-year-old, who had been on the back foot for much of the endgame, turned the tables after a rare blunder from Carlsen, denying the Norwegian what looked like a certain victory and marking a breakthrough moment in his young career.

Despite his frustration, Carlsen managed to regain his composure and shook hands with World Champion Gukesh, who looked equally stunned by his first classical victory against the Norwegian legend. Still trying to process the win, the young Indian Grandmaster rose slowly, dazed and in disbelief.

As Carlsen made his way off the stage, he gave Gukesh a reassuring pat on the back before departing.
